Holly Willoughby’s Life-Changing Journey: How Alternative Therapies Transformed Her Perspective
Dancing on Ice anchor Holly Willoughby has talked about a "eye-opening" experience that made her feel "more in touch with herself" after looking into alternative therapies.
Presenting I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here in 2018 Holly discovered she had a unique opportunity to think when she was by herself in Australia. This led her to look for alternate therapies and explore the neighborhood.
In Australia, Holly discovered alternative therapies like reflexology and kinesiology, which is a muscle therapy that aims to identify "imbalances in the body." Holly made the decision to try everything at the age of 43. While some of the encounters seemed "strange," one session with a kinesiologist in particular stuck out and caused her perspective to change when she returned to London.
"There was one lady I met who was a kinesiologist, and it quickly became clear that whatever you believe, it felt to me like something beyond traditional kinesiology was happening," Holly said in an interview with Elizabeth Day that was recorded for the How to Fail podcast. "My body was responding to what she was saying, and it was like an emotional body test," she continued. It felt like a Pandora's box was opening when something unzipped in my chest. I was unable to reestablish the orderly chaos I had long suppressed once it opened."
As she continued, she called the experience "eye-opening" and added, "I thought, 'Something happened there, and I probably have the time and headspace to explore this more.'" I felt better the more I used conventional therapy or alternative remedies. I improved my self-control and self-awareness.
After realizing that she had "numbed a big section of my life" to get through it as easily as possible, Holly said, "I think I was just done doing that."
In other news, Holly and Stephen Mulhern will co-host Dancing on Ice again tonight at 6:30 PM on ITV One. Anton Ferdinand, Charlie Brooks, Chelsee Healey, Chris Taylor, Dan Edgar, Ferne McCann, Josh Jones, Michaela Strachan, Mollie Pearce, Sam Aston, and Steve Redgrave are among the celebrities who will compete for the top spot on the ice rink in the new series.
